My final front cover, contents page, and double page spread

Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Question 2: How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Question 3: What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Question 4: Who would be the audience for your media product?

Question 5: How did you attract/address your audience?

The general feedback I received from my survey was very positive in relation to how effective how I attracted my audience. However I did receive a couple of negative marks, however I think this was due to personal views. As in comparison to other results the negative points seem to be vaguely anonymous. Although I did receive two ‘No’s on question 3 regarding the genre, however due to my own evaluation of my work I have already recognised the issue so I corrected the size and the font of the sell lines of my front cover, this has made my magazine stand out more and look more professional.
My magazine also addresses the needs of its audience by being a newsmonthly publication which frequent enough to keep people updated on events surrounding the music industry. This is important because the contemporary music industry today is exploding with activity and people want to be updated, they also want to stay ahead of things and know whats going on in the Media industry world.

Question 6: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Question 7: Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Double Page Spread Drafts

This is my Final double page spread, unfortunately I didn't bring my memory stick to college so I could change the positioning of the model and writing.   To improve, I will increase the size of the mast head and have the wording 'Dream' on the right side of the page, which means I am going to drop the smaller images nearer to the bottom of the page.

This is my new updated version of my double page spread, I have altered the positions of the images, changed the font 'And The' and added more text to the page.

I decided to completely change my design of my double page spread as I wasn't happy with the out come; because I felt that it didn't fit the criteria of a R&B magazine and instead looked like a fashion magazine. Also my previous designs wasn't suited with my colour scheme which was black, red and white. This new design is much more in keeping with the genre that I have chosen for this piece of course work.

Double Page Spread Original images

These shots are some of the images I intend to use in my double page spread. 'Living the Dream.. and the night mare.' Theses photographs show not only glamour, confidence and professionalism but also the down side and the stress sometimes involved with been a celebrity. Some of the shots show expensive accessories that celebrities are likely to be seen wearing for example Louboutin shoes and a Louis Vuitton bag. All of the images below, I have made sure the model is looking directly at the camera as this will lead/draws the audience into the story line. The use of the microphone suggests that she is on stage performing. I have used this image of the model using her microphone as it shows her confidence and relaxed state when singing.

I have used two different outfits for the model, both portray a confident up beat and content artist who is loving high life. I have chosen to use the black outfit instead of the outfit above, as the outfit is more likely to be chosen by an R&B artist especially the addition of the unique designer shoes.

However these images are for the other side to the story,(nightmare) as this is when you see the model
with a subdued and distant attitude to being photographed. Which suggests to the audience that the artist troubled and distressed.

This image suggests that the model is confident but yet aloof and is untouchable/ not to be approached. This look can often be seen by celebrities who want to maintain some privacy during times of trouble.

This photo shows evidence of me working with my model to obtain my chosen images.

Final Contents Page

This is my Final Contents page for my R&B magazine.

I have tried to improve my double page spread by adding a by line which gives the consumer more information about the magazine. Personally I have decided not to add any more photos onto my contents page because I have been inspired by 'Vibe' magazines as the contents page only has one main image which has a big impact on the audience.

Ideas for my image colour shade

ORIGINAL IMAGE
-Before editing

The photos below are the same image but I have change the colour/ gradient of the photo to add different effects and emphasis to the audience.

This is the image I will use for my contents page as it will allow me to add all the writing around the model. This image has a hidden meaning and suggest that the model is unlocking the door to let the audience into her life and attracts the audience as they will be interested in the artists lifestyle. After I have tried all of the different gradients I have decided to use the first un- edited photo as it allows the models face make up to still stand out, as the red lipstick could indicate the love and passion for the music. Although the Black and white image is relevant to the R&B music scene on this occasion I have decided that the colour version adds more clarity.

Existing Contents pages

All of the above contents pages are from Vibe magazine. From looking at these 3 images the main object that stands out is the model and the 'V'. Personally I think that the darker shade of colour makes the 'V' stand out and adds a unique effect to the contents page as every vibe magazine contents page has this effect.
I think that I should use a medium close up for my image, as it allows the customer to see the models/artists emotions and feelings, which will attract the audiences attention. Having the words 'contents' separated on different lines is unusual so adds a unique effect for vibe again. I feel that having unique touches to your contents page is important as it is more interesting and impressive which will attract the audience/reader. I need to make sure I have different fonts on my contents page, to grab the readers attention and it will allow the text to have different meanings which will create different effects on the reader. The use of the images reinforces the story lines/sell lines on the front cover which drew the audiences attention first. The use of subheadings sum up the article, by using short and snappy words. For example 'loving your look', this immediately directs it to the audience and makes it personal to them.

Although the bottom right corner is an old Vibe magazine, the wording 'Contents' page hasn't been separated like all of the others. However this has still got the 'V' shape in the top left corner which allows the audience to identify the magazine and adds a unique effect. The shot that has been used is a long shot and the costume blends in with the background allowing the writing to stand out as they have used a contrasting colour.
The last image shows a contents page from a different magazine. On this image the contents page has been set out completely different, as there are a variety of photos. The heading 'contents' has been contrasted with the red background to make the page stand out more and to make it eye catching. The page numbers stand out because of the use of colours which attracts the eye from the darker images.

Photo ideas for my contents page

This is the photo I am going to use for my R&B contents page for my magazine.

This image has a hidden meaning and suggest that the model is unlocking the door to let the audience into her life and attracts the audience as they will be interested in the artists lifestyle. This photo will allow me to write the contents and the fashion around the models figure. I have decided to edit the image slightly by changing the colour to black and white which will permit the writing on the contents page to stand out as I am going to use a brighter colour.

mock up of my contents page

This is my hand drawn mock up for my contents page. By doing this it has given me a clear image of what I am going to create and how I am going to go about this. By the models facial expressions I am going to ensure that the background has a distressed feel to it. This contents page has a hidden meaning as the model is holding onto a lock of a door, which could suggest to the reader that she is opening the door to let you into the audience. Another interpretation could be that the model/ artist is opening the door for a new beginning and to start a fresh.
